The most powerful method to develop self-awareness is to ask questions. Here are some questions you can ask when it comes to self-awareness. First, let's focus on performance. What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment in the past year and why? What aspects of your current role do you find most challenging and how do you typically address them? What specific feedback have you received recently that resonated with you the most and why? What are your key strengths that you believe contribute most to the team's success? What areas of your work do you feel you could improve upon to be more effective? The next section is collaboration and communication. What strategies do you use to effectively communicate with colleagues who have different communication styles? What role do you typically play in team meetings and discussions? What is your preferred method of receiving feedback and why? What challenges have you faced when collaborating with others and how do you overcome them? What do you believe are the key components of a successful and collaborative team environment? Those are 10 questions specific to performance and then communication and collaboration. When we ask questions, our major suggestion is to start with the word what. When we ask questions such as, why aren't you more collaborative? Why are you struggling with performance? Essentially, we put people into a defensive posture and sometimes we can actually eradicate, if not erode, a really transparent, honest, authentic conversation. Plan your questions, drive self-awareness. It can be the secret sauce to a great team and a better individual.
