This is called the Monday monologue. This is usually going to come out on Mondays, the day after the game. Today I'm releasing it on Sunday because I'm fired up enough and this game is still going while I record. This game is going to be on another 15 to 20 minutes. And so I wanted to capture my frustration that I have the Red Zone channel on my television while the Bears are still playing football. And for too many years I have been forced to go to the Red Zone while the Bears are still playing football. It's not fun. And folks, you could not have drawn up two worse weeks to start the 2025 season. The two elements of this franchise that we need to be confident in at the end of this year for the long-term viability of the franchise are coach and quarterback. And look deep inside yourself. Get rid of all the fandom. Is there any reason to believe right now that Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson are the guys? Have they given you any signs whatsoever that they are the future? Caleb Williams looks like a backup quarterback. He doesn't play in structure. He scrambles around. He can make plays and he has terrible deep accuracy. That to me, Jake Browning could do. Ben Johnson has a team that goes on the field for two weeks and does nothing but commit penalties and make mistakes. The sign of really bad coaching. Does that mean neither guy can turn it around and become the real deal? No. I'm not saying that the verdict is in on both. But what I am saying here on Sunday, September 14th, having watched two games of the project, you couldn't have drawn up two worse performances from either band. What does that mean moving forward? I don't know. But expectations for this season are no longer anywhere approaching 500. Expectations for this season are no longer anywhere approaching meaningful games in December and January. Expectations for this season, or I should say the hope for this season, is just that they can become watchable. Can they become an entertainment product? An entertainment product worthy of a few hours of your time each week. Because right now, they are not. And for too many years, they have not been a viable entertainment product. So here we are, once again, a few weeks into a season that looks like it's going to be lost. Where do we go from here? We don't know. But if we know from our history, rooting for this franchise, it usually doesn't get better. We are everywhere and nowhere at once.
