February 22, 2021. 6. Special Education Podcasts Teachers Must Listen To in 2023 Why podcasts? Teachers should listen to podcasts because it's seriously free professional development. Real professionals in the field that know exactly what you are going through in the classroom. They offer practical and meaningful tips and advice. Tips are available at your own time. Even if some of these professionals are no longer in the classroom, they still talk on real experiences that they have experienced. Their experience helps make us better educators. We learn from their classroom lessons. Special Education Podcasts The Inner Circle with Katherine Wicher I love listening to Katherine because she has a wealth of knowledge. She is a special needs sibling to a brother diagnosed with Down syndrome. She also has experience as a special education teacher. She has been on both sides of the IEP table, and I love that Katherine always keeps it real. You can listen to my episode with Katherine here. The Autism Helper with Sasha Long Sasha also has a ton of knowledge to share with her listeners. She has been a special education teacher for many years and has seen it all. She makes sure that her students know she is the cookie, which I think is hilarious. Everyone wants the cookie. You can find Sasha on Spotify Podcasts here. You can also find her at The Autism Helper on Apple Podcasts. Adaptation Station with Nicole Morris Nicole and I have been friends for a while, but she offers insight about ABA and truly helps teachers understand meaningful and practical tips for all types of classrooms. I love listening to Nicole because she is easy to listen to and helps me expand my knowledge for teaching and managing behaviors in the classroom. I have been on a couple episodes with Nicole and you can find her podcast on Spotify here. You can find Nicole on Apple Podcasts as well. Be the Exception Podcast with Dawn Ellis This podcast created by Dawn is a great resource for productivity tips, mindset motivation, special education strategies, education hacks, and inspirational teacher stories. Dawn's podcast is lighthearted and meaningful. She also goes above and beyond to connect with listeners with actionable interviews and knowledgeable education professionals. You can find Be the Exception Podcast here and Dawn's website here. You can also read Dawn's guest blog post about sensory spaces. That's Special Educator with Braylon Martin. Braylon and I really hit it off during quarantine in 2020. Her personality is just electric. I love how Braylon's podcast is always lighthearted and easy to listen to. I love working out and listening to her podcast episodes because they are informal and hilarious. Occasionally, she has guests on her podcast and it is always fun to hear everyone's experiences. You can find That Special Educator on Spotify here and also on Apple Podcasts. You can also find Braylon's YouTube channel for more details into her teaching and personal life. You can also read Braylon's guest blog posts all about partnering with your administration. Ability-Driven Teaching with Madison and Casey. Last but not least, I've recently found my love for Ability-Driven Teaching. Madison and Casey have experiences with life skills, types of classrooms, and that is my favorite subject to learn about. Last year, I did a record an episode with Madison and Casey and I wanted to talk with them for hours. They definitely are good friends and invite you in like you are as well. You can listen to Madison and Casey on Spotify Podcasts here. They are also on Apple Podcasts. You can check out Casey and Madison's guest blog post about including students in the IEP process here.
